With little backpacks on their arms, they boarded the plane for an unknown country. Our 3 year old son and 5 year old daughter had just given up their home, toys and furniture to follow my husband and me to Taiwan. They had never flown on an airplane and didn’t know where Taiwan was located. They didn’t understand they would have to learn Chinese in school and eat different foods. But they trusted us. They needed us. They knew we loved them and would take care of them. They stayed close to us for protection and looked to us to help them understand. They made their home with us wherever we went.
Jesus said, “Abide in me” – make your home with me, trust in me, stay close to me. Those of us who know Jesus are like children who trust and stay close because of our relationship with Him. We know and trust His love for us. It is a resting kind of love. We do not have to be afraid because He is with us. He will never leave us. God reminds us that we can be content and at peace because He promised to be with us, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5.
I am with Jesus and He is with me. No one can snatch me out of His hand. His hand holds on to mine because He loves me. 1 John 4:15-16 says, “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.”
As a believer in Jesus Christ, I can take comfort in God’s love no matter what He asks me to do. He abides with me and I abide with Him. If I should have to pack up and leave, sell my belongings and follow Him to the next destination in my life, I can trust in His love for me. My home is with Jesus, so I want to trust Him as I abide with Him. Where do you make your home? Can you trust Jesus wherever He is going to take you?
